New Parents FAQs

How many classes are there and what are the class sizes?

There are 3 classes in each of the year groups (Year 3-6).

Each class will contain up to 32 pupils.

Each year group is supported by well-trained Learning Support Assistants.

What is the schools current Ofsted grading?

We are delighted that the outcome for our inspection in April 2023 is ‘Good’ and that the areas for further improvement noted in the report had already been highlighted within the school and are being worked on through our Strategic and School Improvement Plan. KJS is an exceptional school with wonderful children, staff and facilities which has created a culture where; 'pupils challenge themselves in their learning'. Parents have also provided feedback saying ‘all the staff work tirelessly to provide a happy, secure school that I would recommend to any parent’. Parents praise, in particular, the advice they receive on how to make sure their children are safe online at home.' (Ofsted quotes)

Are there any extra-curricular activities?

Yes we run a range of clubs that are open to the different year groups. These are run during lunch and after-school.

How will I know how my child is getting on?

We have two formal parents evenings (in the Autumn and Spring), an interim report at easter and an end of year report in the summer.

What do I do when I'm worried about my child?

Please speak to your child's Class Teacher in the first instance either via the school office or ClassDojo.

What do I do if my child is unwell?

Please contact the school office on 01256 326713 leaving a message on the answerphone.

Do you have a school uniform?

Yes and it can be purchased from Skool Kit ( www.skoolkit.co.uk) online or in store. 15 Church St, Basingstoke RG21 7QG

What food or drink can my child bring into school?

Each child should bring in a mid-morning snack of fruit or vegetables. We also like children to have a named bottle of water with them.

For lunch the children have the option to either bring in a packed lunch from home, or order a hot dinner from their Teacher in the morning.

What time does school open and close each day?

8:45am - 3:15pm each day. There is an option for a paid after-school and breakfast club although these are usually subject to waiting lists. Please contact the school office for further information.

How are pupils with SEND supported?

Our SEND provision starts with quality first teaching. Our Teachers are committed to knowing the needs of all of our SEND students and meeting those needs with effectively planned and appropriate lessons. If pupils require further support then a discussion will be held between the Teacher, parents and SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) to discuss appropriate steps.

How are achievements recognised

Each week we hold a celebration assembly for the whole school. Teachers will have chosen one child in the class who has done exceptionally well that week to receive a good news card. In this assembly the total points for each house will also be announced which the children will have been accumulating throughout the week.

What is the schools behaviour policy?

KJS has high expectations of both students and staff. We have created a school charter with our school councillors (pupils elected by their peers each year) this outlines the rights and responsibilities they have in school. Each class then uses this to devise their own class rules. When the children are working hard and following these rules they earn green points on ClassDojo. Where children are struggling to follow them they will get one warning and then receive a red point on ClassDojo. Parents are able to see the points that children have accumulated on a weekly basis via the app.
